Razorpay Setup

Connect your Razorpay account to accept UPI, cards, netbanking, wallets and EMI through your widget or site. Razorpay is the best fit for businesses based in India.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you’ll need:

  • A Razorpay account — Sign up here  if you don’t have one
  • API keys from your Razorpay Dashboard

Razorpay is available to businesses in India, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. Indian accounts settle in INR. Charging other currencies requires International Payments to be enabled on your Razorpay account first.

Getting your API keys

Open the Razorpay Dashboard

Go to dashboard.razorpay.com  and sign in. The keys live under Account & Settings → API Keys.

Pick Test or Live mode

Use the Test Mode / Live Mode switch at the top of the dashboard. Each mode has its own key pair:

  • Test keys start with rzp_test_
  • Live keys start with rzp_live_

Generate and copy your keys

Click Generate Key (or Regenerate if you already have one). You’ll need two values:

  • Key ID — Your public identifier
  • Key Secret — Shown only once when generated, so copy it straight away

Razorpay shows the Key Secret only at the moment you generate it. If you lose it, regenerate the key pair and update your Shareables connection with the new values.

Connecting Razorpay to your widget

Open the Add-ons tab

  1. Open your widget in the Creator
  2. Click the Add-ons tab
  3. Scroll to Payments and toggle it on

Connect your account

  1. Click Connect Payment Account
  2. Select Razorpay as your provider
  3. Enter your Key ID and Key Secret
  4. The environment is detected from the key prefix (Test or Live)
  5. Give your connection a name (e.g., “My Razorpay”)
  6. Click Connect

Shareables will validate your keys with Razorpay before saving. If the keys are invalid, you’ll see an error message.

Check your currency

Connecting Razorpay sets the widget currency to INR. Change it in the Payments section if your Razorpay account is enabled for another currency.

How Razorpay checkout works

When a visitor clicks a payment button on your widget:

  1. A checkout modal opens with a Pay with Razorpay button
  2. Clicking it opens Razorpay’s secure checkout overlay on top of your widget
  3. The visitor picks a payment method (UPI, card, netbanking, wallet or EMI) and completes the payment
  4. The overlay closes and the modal shows a success message

The visitor never leaves your widget page. Razorpay handles the secure payment processing in its own overlay, and Shareables verifies and captures the payment on the server before confirming it.

Razorpay asks the visitor for an email address and phone number inside the overlay. The email is used for the buyer receipt if you have receipts turned on.

Test mode

Razorpay test mode lets you try the full payment flow without real money.

Testing a payment

  1. Connect your widget using Test keys (rzp_test_...)
  2. Publish your widget and open it
  3. Click a payment button, then Pay with Razorpay
  4. In the overlay, pay with a Razorpay test card  or a test UPI ID such as success@razorpay
  5. Verify the success message and check that email notifications arrive

Test and Live use different keys. Make sure to switch to your Live keys before accepting real payments.

Going live

When you’re ready to accept real payments:

  1. Complete Razorpay’s account activation (KYC) so Live mode is enabled
  2. Switch the dashboard to Live Mode and generate your Live key pair
  3. In Shareables, either:
    • Update your existing connection with the live keys (the environment switches automatically), or
    • Create a new connection with the live keys

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to turn on auto-capture?

No. Shareables captures each payment itself right after verifying it, so your Razorpay capture settings do not matter. Leaving auto-capture on in Razorpay is also fine.

What payment methods can buyers use?

Everything enabled on your Razorpay account: UPI, debit and credit cards (including RuPay and international cards), netbanking, wallets such as Paytm and PhonePe, and EMI. The overlay shows the methods your account supports.

Can I use Razorpay together with Stripe or PayPal?

Yes. A widget can have two payment accounts connected at once, so Razorpay can sit alongside Stripe or PayPal. Visitors choose which one to pay with. Order Requests can run alongside either.

Can I charge in a currency other than INR?

Only if International Payments is enabled on your Razorpay account. Without it, Razorpay rejects non-INR orders. Enable it in the Razorpay dashboard, then set the currency in the Shareables Payments section.

Does checkout work inside Instagram or Facebook’s in-app browser?

Razorpay’s checkout overlay needs a browser that supports iframes. Razorpay lists Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Opera Mini and UC Browser as unsupported, so visitors opening your link from those apps should tap Open in browser first. Regular mobile browsers such as Chrome and Safari work normally.

Are there processing fees?

Shareables does not charge any fees. Razorpay’s standard processing fees apply, typically around 2% per domestic transaction, and more for international cards. Check Razorpay’s pricing  for details.
