Connect your Microsoft Excel workbooks to create beautiful, embeddable widgets.

Connecting Excel

Click Connect Excel

From the connection modal, click Connect Excel. If you’ve connected before, you can select a previous account from the dropdown or add a new one.

You’ll be redirected to Microsoft’s authorization page. Sign in with your Microsoft account and grant Shareables access to your OneDrive files.

Select a workbook

Browse your OneDrive workbooks and select the one you want to use. You can search by name to find your file quickly.

Select a worksheet

Choose which worksheet (tab) within the workbook contains your data.

Done!

Once selected, your workbook is connected and you can start building your widget.

Your Excel workbooks must be stored on OneDrive. If you have a local file, upload it to OneDrive first — you can do this from Excel desktop (File → Save to OneDrive) or by dragging it into onedrive.com.

Start Fresh

Don’t have a workbook yet? Use Start Fresh to create one automatically:

Choose a template (e.g., Products, Team Directory, Events)
Shareables creates a new Excel workbook on your OneDrive with sample data
Customize the data in Excel, and your widget updates automatically

Managing Multiple Accounts

You can connect multiple Microsoft accounts to Shareables:

Switch accounts — Use the dropdown to select a different connected account
Add new account — Click “Connect new account” to add another Microsoft account
Reconnect — If your connection expires, you’ll see a “Reconnect” button

How Data Refreshes

Your published widget uses smart caching to balance performance with data freshness.

How it works

When a visitor loads your widget, they see the cached version for fast loading
In the background, a request checks for updated data from your data source
If new data is found, the cache is refreshed
The next visitor (or page refresh) will see the updated data

Cache refresh rate

The cache refreshes at most once per minute, even if multiple visitors are loading your widget. This prevents excessive requests to your data source while ensuring updates appear quickly.

Forcing a refresh

Republishing your widget will immediately clear the cache, so the next visitor sees the latest data.

Troubleshooting

Workbook not appearing

Make sure your Excel file is stored on OneDrive (not just locally). Only .xlsx files on OneDrive will appear in the workbook list.

Authorization failed

Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then attempt the connection again. If issues persist, get in touch.

Failed to fetch data

Check your internet connection and try again. If the issue persists, get in touch.
